LOCAL TRADER COMMITMENT

We are very proud to work with some of Waltham Forest’s best food traders including Walthamstow Dogs, Hanoi Kitchen, Kolkati, Hoshi, Sandwiche, Marli’s Kitchen, Artisan Foods and Shedletsky’s amongst other.

Even our Coffee stall is run by Lloyd Park resident Julius Ibrahim whose award winning social enterprise Second Shot Coffee hires and trains people affected by homelessness. Alternatively if you prefer a beer, we offer E17 based local brewery Signature Brew on tap.

"As local residents to Lloyds park it's been great trading there. The team are really supportive and it's professionally run with a good cross section of food. Nothing beats trading in the grounds of a stately home on a Sunday afternoon. During this time when other doors have closed to us it's been a real boost to have the opportunity to continue trading locally.” John - Walthamstow Dogs"

Where possible we always try to give priority to local traders, but there are some occasions where we might not be able to accommodate them which are:

  • If the market is already at capacity (this is currently the case as we have had to reduce stall numbers in order to adhere to safe social distancing)

  • If we are already at capacity in a certain food category, for example we are at capacity in the bread, cakes, beer, coffee and hot food categories.

  • If a trader’s product quality, stall set up or branding doesn’t meet our required professional standards. (A market is only as good as the quality of its traders and we pride ourselves on having the best!)

  • If a trader cannot commit to trade every week. (Customers need to be able to rely on their stalls being at the market every week)

For new local businesses, we have created a local trader initiative to enable traders with less experience to test their products at the market which you can find out more about here

It is also worth mentioning that there are many categories of farm producers like our Leicestershire Organic Farm Butcher and Lincolnshire Fruit and Veg Farm that do not have Waltham Forest equivalents. Plus there many other producer categories where we have not had any applications from Waltham Forest residents.

Another local initiative we take part in is our annual collaboration with the Charity “One Feeds Two” in which we donate a school meal to a child in Africa for every hot meal we sell over the Christmas period. This year we managed to donate just over 10,000 meals which we are very proud of.

We are also a registered London Living Wage Employer
